MoU Signed Between BFSA & Land O’Lakes Venture 37

International Desk: On 31 January 2021 Land O’Lakes Venture37 signed an MoU with Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), Ministry of Food, Government of Bangladesh. The purpose of the MOU is to collaborate with BFSA to improve overall food safety environment and to increase market access by facilitating agro-food industry in adopting international standard food safety and quality measures.

As per the MoU, land O’Lakes Venture37 will mobilize volunteers from USA to provide specialized technical assistances to help in achieving increased agricultural and agro-food processing quality, productivity and profitability, enhanced application of food safety practices and systems, increased know-how and application of global market programs of Global Food Safety Initiatives requirements for food production and processing, strengthened agricultural and food processing institutions.

Mr. Md. Maksudur Rahman, Country Director, on behalf of Land O’Lakes Venture 37 and Mr. Abdun Naser Khan (Deputy Secretary), Secretary, on behalf of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) signed the MoU. Mr. Md. Abdul Kayowm Sarker (Additional Secretary), Chairman (BFSA); Mr. Md. Rejaul Karim (Joint Secretary), Member (BFSA); Ms. Shah Nawaz Dilruba Khan (Joint Secretary), Member (BFSA); Mr. Sk. Md. Ferdous Arafat, Law Officer of BFSA and Mr. Abu Saleh Muhammad Saifullah, Field Coordinator of Land O’Lakes were present in the signing event at the BFSA office.

BFSA is an autonomous national food safety regulatory agency which works as a statutory organization. It has been established in 2015 under Section 5 of The Food Safety Act, 2013 of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. BFSA is gradually developing its capacity to protect consumers’ lives and health by monitoring the safety of the food supply chain and coordinating the work of the other food controlling agencies to ensure the effective and uniform enforcement of food regulations.

Land O’Lakes Venture37, being funded by USAID, is implementing Farmer to Farmer Food Safety and Quality (F2F FSQ) program to address the important issues of food safety and quality with highly qualified volunteers. Volunteers assist and train others on good agricultural and manufacturing practices to improve the local food safety protocols and quality assurance systems from “field to fork.”
